Cratejoy Marketplace Updates: Sent Message Log & Order Update Notification

Recently, we’ve told you about how Cratejoy is working to improve the customer and seller experience by managing communications related to Cratejoy Marketplace purchases.

The two updates we are sharing with you today are centered around keeping your customers updated and providing visibility for sellers into customer communications.

- Order/Shipping Update Email: this will be sent to Marketplace customers 5 days after an order is placed to let them know that the order is being prepared, but has not shipped yet. (If the shipment notice has already been sent, this notification will not be sent).

Please note: the above update has been paused while our team reevaluates the impact of this message.

  • Order Receipts & Shipment Notices Message Log: sellers can now view logs for sent and delivered order receipts and shipment notices. (Reminder: these emails are now sent and managed by the Cratejoy team.) In order to view whether these emails have been sent or received, please check the Customer Details and History Views on the Subscriptions Page on your Seller Dashboard.

Frequent communication often preempts customer frustration and results in fewer inquiries about the status of an order.

As we continue to improve the Cratejoy Marketplace to better serve you, we are grateful for your patience and do hope that these updates will free up valuable time as you grow your business.

Welcome Email Changes

Recently, we’ve told you about how Cratejoy is working to engage and retain your marketplace subscribers by improving the overall customer experience on Cratejoy.

This plan includes changes to Cratejoy Marketplace communications. Previously, Cratejoy and sellers sent multiple different types of communications to Marketplace customers. As Cratejoy works to improve the Marketplace (for customers and sellers), our team has taken over many of these communications in an effort to reduce customer confusion and increase customer satisfaction.

Previously, when a customer made a purchase on the Cratejoy Marketplace they received a Welcome Email directly from the store (if the store had the welcome email feature enabled). This resulted in customer confusion about what they had purchased and sometimes led to cancellations.

As Cratejoy takes over the responsibility of Marketplace communications, customers will no longer receive the legacy Welcome Emails directly from sellers so we can remove that confusing experience. If you are using the Welcome Email for your website purchases, those will not be impacted by this improvement.

As we transition away from seller-sent welcome emails on the Cratejoy Marketplace, any information that sellers would like to communicate to a new buyer can be added to the custom Order Notification Note (this is included in the Order Confirmation Email - sent by Cratejoy after a Marketplace purchase). You can customize this note on the Marketplace Settings tab on your Seller Dashboard.

Variant Pricing (New!)

With our new Variant Pricing feature, you will be able to simplify the way you offer variants on subscription products on your Marketplace listings.

Transactional Emails

Last year, we told you that Cratejoy is taking over some Marketplace post-purchase transactional emails (order confirmation, shipping updates, and more).

Cratejoy now sends order confirmation emails and shipping notification emails to gift buyers, gift recipients, and regular subscribers.

Subscription & Survey Modification

Subscribers can now modify their subscriptions and update their survey responses using their “My Subscriptions” page on their Marketplace account.

Previously, subscribers would have to request that the seller of the subscription manually modify their subscriptions and update their survey responses.

Cratejoy Community Survey

Every Cratejoy Seller is unique! We’re asking you to complete this demographic survey so that we can make Cratejoy better for you and your fellow sellers.

Every seller who takes this 1 minute survey gets us closer to that community goal. Providing this information gives Cratejoy more opportunities to create success for you as a Cratejoy Seller!

1. 2020 Recap

2020 saw an unexpected dramatic uptick in subscription box popularity, due to increased time at home and customers looking for experiences to fill the gap left by in-person activities.

That meant a dramatically busy year for the Cratejoy Marketplace! Some highlights:

  • 400% pageview increase in 2020

  • Subscription boxes on the Cratejoy Marketplace were viewed 400% more in 2020 than in 2019

  • 100% more sales in 2020

  • The Cratejoy Marketplace saw an increase of over 100% more sales available to our sellers this year

  • E-commerce popularity attracted new sellers to Cratejoy (new sellers = new audiences, too!)

  • The Cratejoy Marketplace saw steady growth in the numbers of new listings and sellers who signed up to meet market demand (due to the large shift to e-commerce in 2020)

2. Creating Success in 2021

3. Order Notification Note

Back in October 2020 we told you that Cratejoy is taking over some Cratejoy Marketplace post-purchase transactional emails (order confirmation, shipping updates, and more). This update will improve your experience as a seller and provide clarity to the buyer experience. Less work for you + happier customers = win-win!

Part of this update includes giving you, as a seller, a place in the order notification email to communicate with the buyers. This custom field can be used to:

- Thank the buyer for their purchase

- Provide necessary purchase details that are unique to the box or category

To create this custom note for Marketplace order confirmation emails: go to your Marketplace Settings page and fill out the Order Notification Note field.

4. Per Product Listings (PPL)

Last year, we started telling Cratejoy Marketplace sellers about our new feature: Per Product Listings. Since then, hundreds of Cratejoy Marketplace sellers have made the switch and gained more control over their marketplace listings.

Per Product Listings make it easier to sell different kinds of subscription boxes and to keep listings updated.

For the third year in a row, we are rolling out a shipping badge on the Marketplace to a select number of Sellers that meet our holiday shipping qualifications.

Sellers on the Marketplace who qualify for this shipping badge will be indicating to shoppers that if they order your box, they will get a shipment in the mail by December 24th.

Customer Subscription Addresses

When you have a customer on your storefront and that customer wants to add or update a mailing address, the mailing address does not automatically change on their active subscriptions.

Instead, the customer needs to go in and apply the correct mailing address against the correct subscription(s).

To make sure a subscription is being sent to the correct address, a success message (pictured below) will now be displayed that prompts your customers to also update their address on appropriate active subscriptions.

1. Per Product Listings

Per Product Listings is a new feature enabling you to create multiple Marketplace listings — all from one Seller account. No more having multiple products in competition on one listing.

What do YOU need to do? Wait to get your access email and then follow the instructions inside.

2. Support/ Marketing & PR Email Address Update

When we have PR and promotional opportunities, we need to get in touch with you! And when your customers have issues or needs, they need to get in touch with you! We have added designated email fields so you can choose where to receive all communications from us and from Marketplace customers.

Marketplace Customer Support Field: Add the email address where we should send messages from your subscribers on the Cratejoy Marketplace that need support.

Marketing & PR Field: Add the email address where we should send messages from Cratejoy about Marketing & PR Opportunities.

3. Support Moderation

You’re running a small business and time is money. We want to improve communications to buyers and give you back some precious time all at once.

That’s why we've updated our support team’s access to customer/seller communications. When customers escalate inquiries to our team we’ll be able to serve you better by being able to reference previous customer/seller communications.

What do YOU need to do? Absolutely nothing. (Nice!)

4. Structured Shipping

Prompt and reliable shipping + shipping communication is the backbone of every successful subscription box business. Better shipping information presented to the customer → stronger CVR, higher renewal rates, and happier customers.

We’re now asking for more specific shipping information from you, and we are presenting this information to the customer in a much clearer way on your listing.

Survey will be available on your Seller Dashboard and can be retaken anytime you need to update your shipping information

5. Transactional emails

When a customer makes a purchase on the Marketplace, the “transactional emails” (order confirmations, shipping updates, etc.,) currently come from many different sources.

This has caused a considerable amount of buyer frustration and confusion, and is impacting our ability to bring you sales, renewals and expand your customer audience.

In order to provide a seamless, friction-free post-purchase experience for Marketplace buyers:

The Cratejoy Marketplace will start sending post-purchase transactional emails to Marketplace buyers, beginning with order confirmation, shipping updates, and more. These emails will be handled by our team with the goal of ensuring we bring you great customers over and over again.

What do YOU need to do? Absolutely nothing. this is projected to start by end of 2020

For some sellers, this means that order confirmations and other post-purchase transactional emails that were once sent by you will instead be sent from the Marketplace.

Cratejoy Condensed:

  1. You’ll be able to create more than one listing soon.

  2. Make sure emails are getting to you! Go to Marketplace Settings and fill out both fields.

  3. Our support team is better able to support you by referencing customer/seller communications that happen via the Marketplace.

  4. We’re making your shipping information clearer. Fill out this survey. We’ll do the rest!

  5. Coming Soon: All transactional emails after a customer makes a purchase will come from the Cratejoy Marketplace and be handled by our team. projected start date: end of 2020
